Re: And interesting article on future politics.
I agree that the Russian (and really, every) Communist Revolutions were laughable deviations from the original Marxist idea. However, I think its telling that the only place where 'Marxist' ideas have taken hold are areas totally unsuited to them. As I understand him, Marx was writing for a German o...

Every planet is an instance, and every fine arts gallery is a mob-drop to Skeelzanian eyes.

Re: And interesting article on future politics.
On rereading my post, I seem to have fallen into the trap of equating political structure = society. I believe my conclusion still stands, however. Political and civil society are intricately linked, and you see the same broad categories emerging over and over through history. There's the rulers, th...

Re: And interesting article on future politics.
Its 1am, and I have music to find. But just reading that quote prompts some thoughts. The article seems to consider the Singularity (which I take to be any sudden, dramatic technological shift that completely reorders the fabric of society) to be a given. It seems to quote Marxist revolutions as an ...

Re: Hearts of Iron III
Ladder playing is more akin to science than actually playing. I've seen the shitfest you people get into over it on these boards. I'm more interested in making the biggest booms than getting the right number of clicks and accumulation of points in place.

Re: Hearts of Iron III
Interesting. I've played HoI1 but never got around to 2. Hopefully they'll continue the trend of making the game more malleable; reading the After Action Reports on the forums, it sounds like its a lot easier to cause history to veer off the road, crash, and burn. That's always been my appeal in the...

Eh, I think white text on black is easier on the eyes myself. Although the diagonal slashmarks seem, I don't know, off.

Re: Subspecies in your nation!
The only real human subspecies in Skeelzania are the Skeelzanian themselves, or Homo Sapiens Skeelzae as they are imaginatively termed. The initial stock were some five million colonists, primarily of Euro-Slavic extraction, that settled on the planet Solomon, and where the bulk of them remained for...
