Application: Interstellar Aretecratic Union of Sapiency

Post by Parivrtta Niraamaya »

History: The Interstellar Aretecratic Union of Sapiency's history is quite plain; in 300 A.T, 300 years after the death of Tesla, the main idea of the Aretecracy was finished. The Socialist Aretecratic Union of Niraamaya's generation ship project was the originator of the Union; in 400 A.T, the AI system was initiated. There have been few conflicts so far.

In the IAUS, most people are happy; everyone can come and go as they like. Everyone is monitored by implants put in at birth, not like there are a lot of births anyway, what with the population control and the fact that everyone lives almost forever. Not that they have a choice about whether to be healthy or not. There is no crime. All crime is detected before it happens. The offenders are FTL'd to the nearest reprogramming center, where whatever emotional or psychological ills that afflicted them are cured. Freedom of speech is utmost, but censorship is voluntary. Anyone can read whatever they want, can see whatever they want.

The laws are basic; no murder, no suppression of free speech, etc. Since everyone gets whatever material goods they want when they wish for it, laws against theft are useless. Population density on most worlds is 15 to 1 per kilometer anyway. PUC connects them all, the FTL of the Union.

The people are conditioned to love the state; in fact, they're bribed to love the state. Having anything you want can do that. Anyone who wants to leave can leave, but the usually return to the Union in disgust in a few days or weeks.

Vaccinations are compulsory. Most vaccinations are given by nanomachine; some species' youth cannot take nanomachine vaccination, so hypodermic syringes are used for those; and for those that can't withstand that, well, needle syringes work just as well.

Many species coexist harmoniously due to the introduction of URM, which is a transforming air.

This is used in defensive purposes as well, since URM can turn into fluoride as soon as it can turn into oxygen. Drones are used for the more stubborn enemies, along with P-16 Subatmospheric Combat Craft. For offensive wars, generally orbital bombardment does the trick. For ally defense, drones are generally used along with P-16 Subatmospheric Combat Craft.

The planetary defense rings around each planet, however, seems to keep most enemies away. Which is just fine, actually.

Immigrants are encouraged and propaganda is dispersed around many other worlds every day.

Many species make up the IAUS, and they're always accepting more.

Welcome to ESUS; I'll be your friendly neighbourhood tester. You'll be given three senario's which we will use to test your skills as a writer. I'll then mark those stories you write. You will need an average mark of 85% to be admitted. The Senario's are as follows;

Senario #1: For the first time in a long time; their is a killer on the loose. You have thus far been unsuccessful in gaining even a hint as to who the culprit is; bodies simply turn up dead while their implants record them as being fine. Roleplay the character/s responsible for tracking the killer down and how they deal with it. The outcome will not effect your mark in any way.

Senario #2: A planet rather vital to your nation has declared independence, the cause of this being up to you to decide. You cannot simply leave the planet on its own; you must get it back. However international pressure means you'll have to do it diplomatically. Write about your government attempting to get the planet back into your nation. The outcome will not effect your mark in any way.

Senario #3: There is a war; specifically one you're loosing. Your opponent has come to your final bastion with the hopes of crushing your military once and for all. Due to a valiant defense so far however your opponent and yourself are on roughly equal terms for this engagement. Role-play the battle from the perspective of your forces. The outcome will not effect your mark in any way.

Scenario 2

Luko Graha. Home of the Lukoans, one of the basic colonizing sapients known to the IAUS. Vital. Not as vital as Janaka Prime; they gave out much larger quantities of iridium. But Luko Graha wasn't just a forgeworld; it had a Leviathan in construction over it, and with it, they could destroy worlds. Of course, since, well, the reason the dispute had even happened was because of the local AI's objections to burning worlds, but even moralistic rebellions sometimes lost their cause.

"The ends justify the means," as many said. Though the IAUS's policy of burning worlds was rather the same, coupled with "If they're so stupid they don't surrender after the first few bombardments, they deserve to explode." The general approach to this kind of thinking was "OH SHI-", but underneath all of that was one simple policy.

There are better planets to colonize.

Luko Graha's rebellion was somewhat likely to happen; the AIs had absorbed ethics from the Lukoans, who had never managed to shake their sense of ethics over the 120 years they had been in the Union. It all started with a simple communique:
Due to the moral ramifications of the Interstellar Aretecratic Union's Declaration of Scorching, we, the citizens and AIs of Luko Graha, along with it's orbiting stations, have decided to declare independence from the Interstellar Aretecratic Union of Sapiency.
It was a simple, boring message, but it signified so much; defiance against the Union, which had protected and guided them for a century and one fifth, and moral outrage, which hadn't happened since the institution of the AIs. The Lukoan Planetary Aretecrat was too on the rebel's side; defiance of the highest degree. Defiance was the key word in the equation; somewhat ugly, a concept new to the IAUS.

So, of course, their first reaction was going to be around the order of 'send a huge fleet in there and annihilate them'; however, annihilation was out of the question. The Lukoans were important for colonization and the IAUS didn't want to have to grow them from scratch; as well as that, there was also the moral conundrum of destroying one of the signatories of the Union. There was also the problem that some foreign nation would go all 'WAAHHHHH" on them.

So they had to do it the hard way; in other words, the diplomatic way.

------------------------------

The Supreme Aretecrat had been distraught at the news. One of their own signatories had rebelled, declared independence from the Aretecracy. Unthinkable. The IAUS had uplifted them, given them modern technology and all they could ever want. He immediately contacted the Plantetary Aretecrat.
!↑h̪͆ɱt͡sɬ ɮɸβʎ̯ŋ͡mt͡ɕ, what is the meaning of this? Stop the rebellion immediately.
I can't. It's the AIs calling the show now, dear Supreme. Besides, worldkiller, don't you think that it's time you've gotten a taste of defiance?
The reply came right before he pressed the 'send' metaphorical 'button'. He read it, then sent his message. The Supreme Aretecrat was shocked by the reply. He paced angrily for a few seconds before deciding on an appropriate retort when another message came. Causality loops were painful sometimes.
No, I will not surrender. The lack of morality you have displayed thus far is appalling. Good day, sir. I hope you enjoy torching children.
Then again, causality loops could be very, very fun.

He started thinking up messages to send, the missives appearing on his neural interface, not sending.
Surrender now, or you will face the consequences.
The message didn't change.
We have given you every technological advance that we could possibly muster! If you dislike our policies, you can just move out.
The message suddenly shifted; the wording appeared quicker than he could comprehend.
This is our home. We belong here. We will always belong here. Never shall you take that from us.
He sighed, pressing the send button before sending another message.
But your world has been changed by us. Changed beneath the surface, the mantle turned to circuitry, the tectonic gaps plugged.
The message came after he pressed the mental 'button'. Apparently this was a complicated thing to think about.
Then retract the circuitry.
The Supreme Aretecrat's eyes opened as wide as he could manage.

Damn, he's a moron. That'll destroy the AIs and destabilize the crust.

He shrugged and replied. It was time to threaten them.
You're idiots. If you don't surrender now, we will take you and reprogram you.
The reply came immediately, a milisecond before he 'pressed' send.
No. We will fight for our independence.
He frowned.
So be it.
He called up the AI nearest on call.

"Murtentis, Debator-class artificial construct, I call you with due respect and request you talk some sense into those Lukoan morons."

"As you wish."

The Debator-class AIs were anomalies. They had command of every known debating tactic in history, came up with their own, practically read your mind and had a way to keep you listening even after you refused to listen.

It took ten minutes. Ten minutes, to quell a rebellion, ten quick minutes for Murtentis to exploit the Planetary Aretecrat's, the AIs', the civilian's minds, to anticipate their every word, to be a greater magnificent bastard than any organic could ever be.

Of course, the Planetary Aretecrat was removed. It turned out he had forgotten how self-rep AI banks worked, and for that little stupidity, he wouldn't retain his position. There was also the little fact that he had supported rebellion. He went on to become a productive member of society. Or at least as productive as one could be in a post-scarcity society.

And no more did Luko Graha ever bother the Aretecracy again with it's trivial 'morality'.

Scenario 3

Niraamaya Prime
Aretecratic Housing Unit

They're coming for us.

"It doesn't matter. They will be crushed by our superior grasp of tactics."

I wouldn't be too sure of that.

"We'll see."

Intermission

The Kyberborian Hanate. A civilization built for conquest. After the Great Galactic Bash-up, the Kyperborian Hanate lost a large amount of territory; territory that would be replaced by more conquest.
Emaya Hhan (May she live for ever) Declared she will make The Intersteelar Arecratic Union of Sapincy, who is well known to be Ultra Agressive and Totalratian, into a Vausal of The Star Empire. "This will keep them from being a threat to anyone, and also keep then on a leash; Our Leash." She said as she soon declared "You have Two Choses Areteracy: Bow to me or Lay on a Pool of Blood, YOUR BLOOD."
The message was indecipherable; however, when the Hanate came, it came into focus. The Subordinate Fleets were away then, on reconnaissance missions. The fleet of the Hanate came swiftly from all sides, taking all but the capital in an unexpected move, their endless casualties against the defense systems ignored. Now, they were coming for Niraamaya. The Subordinate Fleets came back to Niraamaya; coming back to defend it's homeland. Their fleets just matched; the Hanate had lost a large amount of people in taking those worlds, by being massacred by the thousands until they were coming in so quick the fluorine couldn't stop them.

Soon, it would be seen who the victor was.

Jiivita Graha
Orbit

The only moon of the gas giant Maatichi Graha supporting life, Jiivita Graha was also the furthest out- the only one that needed an artificial sunlight, produced from the ignition of the surface layer of the gas giant. The Kyperborians, of course, picked this as their first target. The Second Subordinate Fleet was there to intercept them, and the rest of the fleets would be there soon.

Fire filled the sky; the ISF Maggie Gallagher went up in flames as the weapons of the Kyperborians reduced it to cinders. The pilot safely ejected, but several cruisers and heavy cruisers were destroyed. They had no chance against the still-enormous fleet of the Kyperborians.

ISF Apobothra

"We've reached Jiivita."

Activating weapons.

The cavalry has arrived.

Jiivita Graha
Orbit

The rest of the Eight Fleets came, PUCing into existence surrounding the disorganized Kyperborians, firing quick and strong. Their unexpected presence caused much of the Kyperborian fleet to almost rout; the poor organization of the Kyperborian fleet was serious business.

The ISF Mitanni III did it's usual routine; it went straight for the throat of the enemy formation, a kamikaze. It accelerated towards the central ship; the flagship, apparently. The flagship, not expecting a kamikaze, didn't fire upon the Mittani as the antimatter core went critical right next to it…

…and then came a flash of white.

Where there was once a flagship, there was a wreck.

The rest of the battle was just mopping up after the coordination of the entire fleet was disrupted; the Kyperborians' tactics were terrible before the flagship went up in a flash. It went downhill from there.

The Kyperborians never had a chance ever since their fleet's flagship was destroyed. It was a massacre.

The Star Empire's assets were severely damaged by the fight; they never tried another conquest again. They were soon after absorbed by the United Terran Alliance, a far larger nation in the Galactic South. This didn't concern the Aretecracy much; the 6 systems had been retaken with ease, and their citizens inducted into the Aretecracy.

There was no dissent.
