Thermopticâ„¢ Passive-Refractive and Holograohic Clothing

Post by Kanuckistan »

So, with a apparent death of the thread I was planning to roll it out in, I figure y'all might find it of interest.

As the name says, Kanuckistani manufacturers are now producing clothing and armour, rigid and non, incorporating complex optical materials with highly refractive properties.

The results include t-shirts that let people see through you, jackets that make your torso look like it's made of glass or water, etc. Obviously, rigid materials result in a cleaner look, tho for civilian purposes you'll want enough distortion that people won't walk/drive into you.

This can be incorporated into armour for stealth, or integrate holographics for stylistic fun - turn your torso into a fish tank, or have a famous star battle taking place around and through your body. Show off your 'heart', with the push of a button 'opening' a hole in your chest, holographics fed by woven-in med sensors relaying real-time data.

And on the balance, it's not that expensive. Cleaner transparency, holographics, variable transparency, etc. add to the cost, obviously, but it's still in the range you might pay for clothing iRL. Any applicable components are seamlessly woven into the fabric, distributed such that you'll never actually find them without a scanner.

Finally, on-demand fabrication allows for maximum customization.

Oh yeah, Otagians would eat this stuff up. Might incorporate it into one of my RPs some time if you don't mind. :D

I'd hit it too.

Definitely some interesting ideas to stem from it. Now, if only Trailers would post in the 12 year thread. >_>

I see potential medical uses for this. Interesting...

The military uses for stuff like this are a given. Medical uses? That's something you don't necessarily see in your average, everyday stealth tech.
This won't end well.

Err... What sort of uses? I can only think of some sort of cosmetic thing for horribly disfigured accident victims.
