An official press release from the leadership of the Federated Stellar Republics of Wormia announed today that it, in cooperation with the Conglomeration of Northrop-Grumman and Starchitecture Enginnering Inc. would be embarking on the greatest public works project in Wormian history. Chancellor George Thomas IV signed a contract Wednesday with Wormia's aformentioned ally and fellow ESUS member allocating a total of $10.8 trillion dollars to Northrop-Grumman for the development, construction and shipment of six orbital stargates.

"Wormia's transportation system is currently quite inefficient. We felt the need for an overhaul was necessary," commented the Chancellor on Thursday, "These stargates will cut down the amount of power needed for interstellar transit, and should alleviate the constant strain Wormian space undergoes with the constant and almost unceasing use of space-fold drives."

The project's estimated total is slated at a minimum of $16.8 trillion dollars, with $10.8 trillion going to Northrop-Grumman for the wormhole hardware and operating software. Despite options to "attach" a spacedock type habitation zone to each orbital stargate, Wormian officials contracted Starchitecture Engineering Inc. to construct the liveable section of the gates.

The specifics of the gates are classified, though each is slated to be around 20 kilometers in diameter, allowing numerous typical starships to travel through at once. The stargates are to be placed in orbit around Wormia's major homeworlds, however, due to security and national defense issues, the stargates will NOT be accessible from non-Wormian stargates.

"Evidence against nations such as the Fedral Union and others point to anti-Wormian positions in their populations, and recent incidents involving the aformentioned Union have prompted us not to hand over our territory on a silver platter." commented Admiral Jonathan Ketcher on Thursday, "Wormian stargates will, for the time being, be for inter-Wormian commerce only."

Despite Wormia's current economic trough, the payment to Northrop-Grumman will be made in injections of $1.8 trillion dollars per year, ensuring Wormia's payment will be completed prior to the delivery of the first stargate. Payment of $1 trillion dollars to Starchitecture Engineering Inc. will be made upon completion of respective habitation zones.
