Does that mean it's uberly huge? I like bg ships, but not to the point of "overcomp classic"

I recommend my Jupiter B class battleship. Over 2 km long and it has room for additional systems that you may want to incorporate into the ship. You can find more info on the ship on my encyclopedia at this website.

I usually go with "1 RL Day = 1 NS Year", but oftentimes that will shift a bit up and down depending on what's happening with my nation at the time.
