I thought of that. Problem is is that it can't replace red meat for a food stable. Phytoplankton (Algae etc.) is viewed more as a "supplemental" food source. We simply couldn't sustain ourselves on it alone indefinatly.

Which is why Kanuckistani 'Green Goo' consists of a broad mixture of such organisms, engineered to meet a variety of dietary and culinary needs. It's almost universally unpopular, but it's cheap, it works, and properly prepared, about as palatable as anything else.

And if nothing else, you can feed it to traditional meat animals.

Kanuckistan, I have for the last while have come to the conclusion that you are a salesman! If you're not, you should be! We currently possess several thousands of species of algea (Green, Blue/Green and Red forms are all quite common on many worlds) and we farm and harvest it en masse. And as I've mentioned before, its an ideal supplimental food source because its high in protein, vitimans, minerals, enzymes and chloraphyll, but we couldn't sustain ourselves on it indefinatly because it lacks calories. We even add congealed blood and bonemeal to it, and yes, we feed it to our meat animals (including fish stocks) and even use the stuff as a fertilizer.

As for "growing meat" we do that but use tubs or vats that contain a nutrient fluid and just add some base cellular culture and viola! You get the meat item of you choice! Its that simple.
