It was a quiet day on Metallinautia Prime. It was nice out, the aqua blue sky was vivid as ever. There were white fluffy clouds. Children were playing in the Capital City's playgrounds giggling with the glee of youth.
Though all was not well. For while outside the warm soft breeze may caressa you, in the Metallinaut's Parliment a firestorm was about to errupt.
In The Var'nya (Metallinautian for Parliment)
Admiral Frazier sat in his chair looking at the royal blue rug. It's shade changed from light to dark from the different refraction in the light. He looked up and saw the Senators standing and shouting at eachother. It was a common site. The Red faced men and women screaming and flaining their arms in threatening ways. It was always the same argument, day in and day out. There was one particularly short and pudgy old man wuth a plum red face that was so amusing. He was on the verge of having a stroke. Then Frazier remembered why he was here. Hh hated to do this.
What all the commotion was about is what every debate in Parliment had been about for the past 50 years. For the past to centuries Metallinauts has been at war with the Shivan menace. It's cost has payed a huge toll in every aspect of life. The news reports prying fo revery detail. Showing pictures from the war front. Showing wailing family members as they found out that their son or daughter had been killed in service. Or his least favorite, the teary seperation of children with their parents as they are enrolled into the military. He started to choke.
"We must stay the course. Metallinauts has always been the harbor of peace and charity. To commit genocide on those who oppose us is wrong. Regardless if they would do it to us, we must be better, for when all is said and done we must be able to look at ourselves in the mirror." said Head Senator Patrick Moore.
Admiral Fraizer nodded his head. It was a noble ideal, that of the Metallinauts way. Yet it is not practical, through our rapid expansion we have encountered genocidial maniacs. Hell there are even some in the ESUS. We must kill them boefore the kill us. thought Fraizer.
He stood up and the whole room hushed and turned their eyes towards him. He could feel the intensity of the moment burning in his ears. He strode to the podieum. He made a wide glance back and forth. He knew what was going to happen next, but it had to be done for the good of is people.
"Esteemed Senators. It is with a heavy heart and much contempted that I must express to you how much danger we are putting our selves into on relying on the restrainet of other empires. We have seen for the past 200 years that not all nations hold the gift of life as dear as we do. We must be prepared to do to them, what they would doo to us. We must even take it a step further. We must exterminate all who would oppose us and make war on our people. I know that for the past 800 years of our journies in space we have stood fast to the fact that we would not commit universal genocide. Yet we must. the Army and Navy are for this. Those who will oppose us will be removed with force, a coup once put us in this position and another will remove us from it. You have untill next week to decide your course of action." said Frazier with much contempt.
He looked around the bright room with royal blue seats and tapestries and its glimmering white walls. It was a beautiful old building. He looked around as the Senate errupt into a sea of electricity. Chairs were now flying as the allegedly most sophisticated men and women of Metallinauts lost all composure. It broke his heart to see this.
Fraizer turned on his heel and walked off the stage as he the armed security came in hitting the Senators with shock sticks and stun rifles. That amused him, now they too would expierence the hi-tech police force that they regard so highly of, though in the morning come cries of police brutality.
He took one long look at the Parliment, he was again saddened as he realized, this was the last time there would ever be a Parliment in Metallinauts.
