Your drums are a little mechanical. No one can hit a hi-hat that perfectly 150+ times in a row. It becomes distracting after a while.
Not to mention the music in Halo ODST is fucking awful. Why would you write music inspired by it?

Huh? I thought the music in ODST was quite nice. The Mindset wrote:Your drums are a little mechanical. No one can hit a hi-hat that perfectly 150+ times in a row. It becomes distracting after a while.

As to the hi-hat thing, you might have a point. I have a friend who's a professional drummer, I'll ask him about it.

Actually, it's not so much that the music was bad, it's just that it's incredibly blande and isn't a good fit for what's actually happening on screen. Smooth jazz over hectic battles with aliens?
If your drums are sequenced you can get rid of some of the mechanical sense by randomising the velocity. What software are you using? I only really know FLStudio. If you're using that, you can alter velocity at the bottom panel of the piano roll view, and if you go to file -> randomise you can minutely randomise the length and timing of the hits too.

I use Sibelius 5 and a midi converter, so the music is played to mechanical perfection. Which means that if there was anything that sounded improvised, it wasn't. You got conned.
More seriously, I'll have a look at the list of plugins. It has to have a randomiser somewhere.
EDIT: Oh, and yeah, I'd be inclined to agree with your comment on ODST - at least in 'Mombasa Streets' proper. Bad choice of music. In the levels, however, the bad-choice-itis wasn't so bad.

Is that a music notation software? If it supports VST plugins there's loads out there that can do what you're looking for.

Mhm, it's music notation. Not sure if it does VST plugins, I'll look into it.
