Outbreak? I've been using Mad Cats since TCA was in diapers!

This heresy you're talking about; drive systems as opposed to jump jets, is disturbing. Shields I can understand, but if you make it so that it can fly you've defeated the whole purpose of having a mech. :P

Yeah. I know. What I've been using up until recently were things that were referencing the early days of battletech: The LAM, also known as the VF-1 rip-offs from the original 3025 tech manual. I'm sure you all should remember these, as they were back in the days before FASA got sued by the Robotech people because they screwed up and only bought the rights to create the miniatures. Anyway, to have a full fighter mode with drive system, and then just jump jets in mech mode didn't quite make sense there.

Now, the direction I'm taking it is getting better. There are all kinds of fun stuff in the BTech system now, so I don't have to worry about up-teching on the jump jets anymore. If I want something that almost flies, I'll use Improved Jump Jets instead. In other words, by the time my forces are done switching out their weaponry to the newer and better stuff, the only "improvements" I'll be making on these things are going to be the shields.

I'm going to finish this off saying that I love c3 networks, and be on my way.
This won't end well.

Protip: Any FT army worth its salt has c3 networks. :P

I'm inspired on Heavy Gear regarding the LOL Landcarrier factor, but then I got into the superior Mech Warrior series which were made of epic and win until M$ killed them, and not satisfied, r4ep'd Shadowrun

I have good reasons to not make a "wet" navy obsolete, other than the fact that in a planet with enough water for them to hover through or to submerge(and for human inhabitation), Solar Communes would rather take it over than destroy it at most if not all times.

Suffice to say their lack of access to gravitics because they were impossible under their universe was compensated by major breakthroughs in magnetic technologies.

Most inhabitable planets have a strong enough magnetic field to allow universal MagLev given proper technology. Basically its principle is like that which moves the pointer of a compass, only that due to a much higher magnetism from -unobtainium from alien planet- it uses the magnetic field to move thousands of tons of metal rather than a small pointer. Take or leave monopole magnets of the equation.

PS: Unless you consider a tracked(for smaller) or hovering(for bigger) vehicle with an AI and a turret almost as flexible as an human arm a mech, I don't have any mechs.

PS2: When you are invading a planet, a land carrier demolishing a city with its sheer mass is more intimidating and manlier than a distant spacecraft bringing death from above.

PS3: And blood-soaked World Eaters with chainsaw axes and melee weapons only are even more intimidating than any uber-tech.

We have better; land battleships. i.e., the Bolo.

Distant spacecraft are hardly chumps either, especially when they're glassing a whole continent.

We (Metallinauts) don't care about manly as our fights are measured in minutes rather than days/months. We show up, throw a hurting on, and then disappear as fast as we came. We are literally Deus ex Machina. So our penis is already huge, no need to prove manliness when you can wipe the multiverse from existence in nanoseconds.

Not even Viagra could save it should you ever visit the universe of Solar Communes where the strict laws of time and space would castrate it like a knife made of nonexistence itself. And where any attempt to ignore them would be retributed by a singular shot of that huge cannon Reploid Productions rendered.

At best, you would make Everett's Many Worlds interpretation invalid in Solar Communes as all other universes unprotected by the Super-Shield of Einstein FTLi among many others would be gone.

Also, mass cloning technologies, strategic and tactical developments of thousands of years of warfare involving planetary invasions coupled with a totally nihilistic population which no longer values life would make conquest equally quick, but much more epic than waving hands over the fourth dimension.

Whatever you don't constantly prove, you don't have. Anybody can push a button and glass a planet from orbit in the over-popular "hurrrr spaceships>armies" strategy, but it takes a real man to have a FT military force that still uses weightlifting as a form of training, and gets results.

HUGE results.

Once those shipments of Facehuggerian theater shields start arriving, the day of the overmuscled ubermensch will truly dawn!

But what's the fun of killing every Xenos at once rather bulldozing their homes with something which would put the LOL Ratte to shame?

Like "I glass planet x, everybody dies thread is over"...

It is just boooooooring.

Or why do you think that "The War of the Worlds" didn't involve the aliens glassing Earth in a 5 page mini-leaflet short history that would only be adapted into an Yotube video rather than in a movie?

Your generic glassing won't ever be as depressing and dramatic as this:
