The sleeper

Unbeknownst to anyone not scrutinously monitoring every bit of planetary activity, a cargo FoldShip's signature failed to leave the planet. Technically, the vessel holding tens of thousands of refugees had successfully escaped the planet, slipping away into spacefold before even leaving the atmosphere... but the signature remained, only now it was heading back down to the planet, in a spiraling motion. The pop of a spacefold sounded more like a cacaphonous explosion in the upper atmosphere as the shape of the distant colony ship was replaced almost instantaneously with a twin-hulled Kryptonite. The vessel, barrelling downwards at a gentle angle, faked the appearance of an explosion, detonating low-yield warheads in its wake, and too all sensor readings, the ship of pretty much the same size and mass appeared to have an accident while trying to enter spacefold, and began to crash down towards the ocean. A missile was fired into the water ahead of them to break the surface tension, creating the spash effect of a crash landing.

The RMF Shiblon, sealed up for underwater, cruised slowly under the surface of the water as a submarine. air bubbled up from the ocean as the ship lowered itself to the ocean floor, full of a loose sand, and engaged it's atmos engines in reverse, sucking the sand out from under and forcing it above, quickly burrying the ship beneath the surface. The ship's power cores dimmed down, and the crew hoped to go unnoticed.

Commanding Sister Blade Sa'Fyre sighed with relief when she found that no one had immediately fired any orbital artillery her way. The coordinated stealth insertion would hopefully go unnoticed... even if they were discovered, they were just one ship. Now 50 meters underneath sand, the ship had a sufficient amount of earth over them to not only mask their presence, but provide a last bit of protection against anything that might come up... or down on them.

Kertai listened, in suspense, or as much as one as he could feel, anyway. One by one the answers rolled in, and all affirmed, save those who were physically unable to say so. It was now time.

Anikar, he asked. Now comes the very last. May I take command of the ships of the Sornei fleet?

For a moment, she hesitated. Unbidden rose the image of Julius in her mind, smiling in the dark. She banished it away.

You have my permission, she simply replied.

Kertai snapped into action. First he sent a brief readout of coordinates for Warhammer-Kanuckistan, firing solutions, and weapon recalibrations to program into their firing sequences. The key to the strength of the Departed was simple; they were expecting a certain kind of attack, and all their defenses were trained against it. The appearance of allied fleets against them had caused the Departed to retrench some, but once the allies fell into predictable patterns it was easy to bear up. At the same time, firing had to be focused on the same area, all at once. Once the shields broke, their ships would fall.

Then he turned his will to Battlegroup Starfire. As one the Sornei fleets and the Battlegroup moved, laborious as it was and injured as they were. The haphazard firing stopped, the Republic Fleet rallied.

The Departed were troubled. Things were not going as planned.

As a mighty shout, the fleets concentrated the whole of their fire on a single dreadnaught, sitting in the center of the fleet. It stood, seemingly unaffected, even as some smaller enemy ships physically covering the way melted beneath the blow. Once more, and nothing. Finally, once again, a thousand thousand bolts and shells, gleaming white, red, green, blue, all converged on the ship, and its shields burst and vanished. More volleys, varying in speed and duration, now showered the dreadnaught. It began to list and buckle, and cyan jets of plasma flame sprouted from its shining hull as it was seemingly eaten away, and then it violently ballooned amidships, and blew itself apart, drawing into its ruin a number of other vessels close at hand.

Like an eye Kertai's attention swept to the next largest and most dangerous targets. The lines of the Departed were thrown into confusion by the fall of the dreadnaught, and their firing grew haphazard, going wide. It was working. He threw the dreadnoughts of the allied fleets forward, the heavy ships, to shield the smaller vessels from the panic of the Departed. One by one the heaviest ships in the Departed fleet violently exploded, throwing the bulk of their own fleet into greater chaos.

The dreadnaughts bombarding New Constantinople paused. Cries of astonishment and dismay seized their communications channels. Things were going awry. They considered turning, but then Skeelzania's forces fell upon them, and the defenses of New Constantinople roared their own revenge. The planet-based superlasers below began their own coordinated fire, from multiple arrays, and focused on the leader there. Like its sistership it held through the first volleys, but then its shields fell, even as the group began to scour their tormentors below, who were too many. The next strike sheared right through it, and it lost control, plummeting toward the planet below, breaking up as it fell flaming through the upper atmosphere. The bombarders now realized that the timetable had to be moved up. They had planned on crushing the impudents, levelling their city, and landing their forces. There would now only be time for the last.

Thousands of transports burst forth from holds across the embattled leviathans, including the one that was falling to the planet below. Transports and shuttles and escape pods, as the infuriated elves moved to salvage their mangled attack, glittered in the sky as they began firey but more controlled descents into the atmosphere, scattered broadly over the urban landscapes below. Yet at least two shuttles veered off from the main body, and by all indications looked like they had a specific destination in mind. Hardly would they be noticed above the fray, however.

The dieing bombard vessels spared their last minutes of fire on the arrays below, but there were hundreds, enough to cover every inch of sky, and nowhere near enough time to destroy them all. Switching strategy, they picked out likely power stations on the fly and fired at them, though it did little to avail them. While the Sornei military and the ancient Arizona Novanian federal infrastructure tended to centralize, the civilian side more often did not. For every PBSL there were dozens of substations and plants across the planet. It would take more than panicked bombardment to wipe them all out. The Skeelzanian light vessels confidently closed, and opened fire.

The tide had finally turned here, and the Departed now knew it. It would avail this human scum naught! More armadas had they to bear, and this was the great part of Sornei strength that lay shattered here. They could win today but it would do them no good tomorrow.

OOC: The first section was written before I knew we could write out our attacks.

Captain Desaix gave the command himself, broadcasting open. Let the Elves know that death was at hand. “All units, general attack on Target DD Zero Five."

The Skeelzanian fleet turned on the Imperiatus Dreadnought, shifting their fire from the myriad smaller ships to the one target. Even the still-burning Ishtar, with its halo of frigates, managed to wear about, adding its guns to the fray. The Imperiatus Dreadnought loomed in space, fire licking out at the oncoming Skeelzanian formations. Blasts scored armor, ships exploded. Desaix urged his ship onward, passing through the burning cloud of debris that was once a Druzhina cruiser. “Enemy target is in torpedo range!

“Very good, Mister Rugel. Prep all batteries.

Far forward in the Turnadot’s bow, handlers loaded the last of their deadly charges. Carried individually through the super-armored bulkheads of the magazine, the antimatter torpedoes were given their targeting data. Scarcely larger than an oil drum, they had three components: at the front, an independent tracking unit. At the rear, a simple rocket engine, itself fed by an antimatter FloChip. And in the center of the torpedo, protected by magnetic shielding and a thin layer of armor, was the FloChip equivalent of two pounds of antimatter.

Back in the bridge, the final light turned from red to green. “All batteries are loaded, called out the Gunner.

“Fire.

Armored plugs slid back, allowing the coilgun launchers to fling their deadly cargo at the Imperiatus dreadnought. Turandot and Arminicus each fired a volley of thirty six, the limping Ishtar abstaining. With the fleet’s guns hammering down the Elven shields, the torpedoes found their mark against the enemy’s hull.
Things were still too close for wildly cheering. However, Desaix allowed himself a predatory grin as the Dreadnought buckled under more than three thousand megatons of destruction. “Radio the Zerstorendar fleet, tell them now is the time to press the attack. There’ll be no escape for the enemy!

* * * * *

Explosions rippled across the upper atmosphere of New Constantiople as the Skeelzanian Light Elements wreaked revenge. As burning plasma streamed through rents in their armor, the Nemesis cruisers engaged every possible target, their multiple turrets blazing away at a half dozen shuttles at once. The Imperiatus still had teeth, however: focused as they were on annihilating the planet below, a few of their guns were still turned on the enemy cruisers. Three Skeelzanian warships died in quick succession, their flaming hulks breaking apart in the high atmosphere and cutting a bloody path through the descending shuttles.

There seemed to be little point. The city below was a shattered, burning wasteland of skeletal towers and irradiated debris. Bolt strikes from the dying fleet above punctuated the gloom with temporary suns. Looking down from their ships, the Skeelzanian captains couldn't believe that anyone had survived.

But some had. As the first wave Imperiatus shuttles came over the city, they found themselves in the midst of a nuclear holocaust. An Anti-Landing round, fired from one of the few remaining Skeelzanian guns, exploded within their formation. No where near enough to halt their descent, but it let the Imperiatus know that the city still resisted.

New Constantinople's urban center had received the heaviest bombardment, and casualties were correspondingly higher. The Skeelzanian forces deployed there had lost much of their cohesion; it was unknown whether their General had even survived. Casualties were already in the thousands among the 302nd division and FS men stationed with them. Their artillery was all but destroyed, but they still had their guns, and their shovels. The Elven invaders found themselves under small arms fire upon landing, attacked from makeshift bunkers dug into the rubble. Shoulder-fired rockets shrieked up into the sky to further disrupt the landing formations.

Things were not so grim to the east. The industrial districts had received a relatively light bombardment, presumably because there were less Sornei to kill there. The 256th's commander, Majorgeneral Patrik Ekard, still had some control over his unit. Sheltering the basement of a bombed-out factory, he quickly collated the reports from across the district, and didn't like what he saw. Upwards of 2000 men, a fifth of his division, were casualties. The FS men had fared somewhat better, but overall they were lucky to be alive. Even more fortunate was the survival of half of the artillery pieces, sixteen guns in all.

Sweeping the rubble off of a table with his arm, Ekard spread a map of the out. It was vague, made in a hurry, but there weren't many landmarks remaining in any case. His staff crowded around, joined by the commanders of the 33rd FS Regiment. "The enemy is landing in the city itself, and I doubt theres anyone left to resist them." Ekard glanced at the FS Colonel. "We have to presume that the 302nd, as well as the 3rd's Command has been wiped out. We haven't heard a thing from Esterhazy in two hours. In light of this, I am taking direct control of the 256 and any other units we recover. Most of us are still alive, and we can't sit here twiddling our thumbs. First Regiment will remain here and secure the artillery. The rest are ordered into a general attack into the city center."

"And what of my men?" The Furstentumschutzen asked. "The General's standing orders were to serve as your command guard."

"My men will protect me from any rogue keeblers. As I said, this is a general attack, which includes your regiments. We have to link up with any Zerstorendar units in the city, and cut the Elves to pieces there."

Word quickly spread among the regiments, first by runner and then by radio. The artillery opened with a barrage on the largest Elven concentrations, and the Skeelzanian infantry began their counterattack.
"Emperor of Skeelzania, Grand Prince of Solomon, Champion of the Guards, Defender of the Race, Lord of Hosts, and Heir to the Great Bad Skeelz."

Official title of the ruler of Skeelzania

"....And done, sir. Kertai has assumed control. We are coming about now. Light ships are forming in front, and heavy ships behind."

<"Where are we turning towards?">

"It appears to be the dreadnaughts, sir. This A.I. looks as if it wants to take them out."

J'thai nodded grimly. "I have also noticed the fleet has turned its shields back on, as Kertai has found a way to make them immune to the ignoring effect of their laser weapons. As such, losses will be much lighter now." The Warlord eased a little bit. Good, he was already going to be sending a large casualty report to the Praetor about this battle. He was sure they would see why, but he was going to be on his toes until he got official word on how the Praetor felt about this. The ship shuddered as Kertai had their fleet turn and head for the superdreadnoughts, and at a surprising clip too. The fire of the fleet behind them slackened off, as they became troubled and worried about the Republic Sector Fleet, which was rallying and driving hard into their ranks. Grabbing his chair handles, he held on tight as they came into range and began unloading on the superdreadnought. Salvoes came and went, slamming into its shields without any sign of weakness. His sensors showed otherwise, as the energy readings took quick nosedives. The shielding quickly failed and the ship was quickly torn to pieces in the assault.

J'thai's grin was immense; vengeance tasted oh so sweet. He saw the heavier ships move forward to cover the lighter ones from the panicked attacks of the Departed, who began to fall apart as they lost one of their vaunted ships. Their armor and shielding held, and they replied with another series of salvoes. One by one, the enemy heavy ships fell. His eyes caught something as the New Constantinople defenses and the Skeelzanian ships cut into the bombarding ships. After entering some commands, the screen magnified and he saw thousands of transports, escape pods, anything that could carry soldiers being sent down to the planet. His grin grew even wider. He tapped a key and the A.I. appeared.

"Yes, sir?"

<"What ground forces survived the battle?">

"Checking.....The 31st and 43rd Legions suffered heavy casualties, along with the Heaven's Guard Chapter of the Warbringers. All else, however, seems to have done alright. There are casualties all around, but they are moderate at worst."

J'thai nodded. <"Understood. Deploy them all."> There was a pause as the A.I. went through its version of surprise.

"Sir? But, the 31st and 43rd...the Heaven's Guard...they-"

<"They are burning for vengeance, and now I see a chance for them to get it, I will not deprive them of it. They will also be fighting harder than ever before; something we will need to stop the ground invasion. Now, I want all vehicles, the Colossus, Juggernauts, all of it, to be deployed as well. This is a full scale invasion; let's not hold back. Also, have all interceptors and fighter-bombers still alive and able to fight to escort them to the planet, and then proceed to bomb those elven bastards. Do not bomb the cities, or attack when civilians could be harmed, but if they are caught where none of our allies and their people are...I want them carpet-bombed.">

"Yes, Warlord.....Command sent. All forces are mobilizing, and shuttles will be deploying soon. What of the fleet?"

<"Continue following Kertai's instructions, but get some covering fire for the soldiers; they've had enough of ships for one day, make sure they do not impede their ride to glory and vengeance.">

The Kelauan fleet continued to hammer the Departed, following Kertai's instructions, but they sent some fire into the gap being formed, so a hole could be formed for the swarm of shuttles and drop pods to go through. The shuttles, full of angry and vengeful Marines and Warbringers, shot from the fleet as fast as they could go, afterburners on maximum. The drop pods deployed from holding compartments, and were shot on their way, carrying the massive Colossus walkers, the Stalker Drones, the Grav Skimmer, and others. All of Warfleet's Armageddon and Warsong's ground capability was unleashed and sent to the planet. But not alone. The remaining squadrons of fighter and bomber craft shot through the gap of fire and debris alongside the shuttles, entering the atmosphere and heading for the ground. They picked one city to begin their aid to the Sornei, Raysians, Kanuckistanis, and the Skeelzanians. To begin their war of vengeance. It had a name, but it was unimportant. It was now a battleground. The bombardment had hit this city hard; fires burned everywhere and cratered buildings filled the skyline. The shuttles landed as quickly and as uniformly as they could. The shattered remnants of the 31st and the 43rd gathered together as one, and the Heaven's Guard Chapter formed up behind the Kelauan designed to lead the attack: Krauros, Warleader of the Heaven's Guard.

As the shuttles began to unload their cargo, the drop-pods slammed into the earth around them, and unfolded to reveal the massive machines of war. The gigantic Juggernaut tanks, which remained many of the mighty Baneblades of the Imperium of Man, the colossal MAP (Mobile Artillery Platforms), which were giant floating platforms of shielding and long range kinetic and energy bombardment guns, capable of laying waste to entire armies in seconds, and the AAD (Air Attack Drones), buzzing engines of death which served as the atmospheric aircraft, capable of bombing runs and strafing attacks with antimatter missiles and graser cannons, but were also equipped with an array of tentacle-like arms that could tear apart infantry. All of these and more were deployed, outside of the city. They were organized into three groups. The main group, Krauros' group, would have the most vehicles and troops, and would be assigned to smashing through all enemy forces to aid their besieged allies that were a couple cities away, the second group, led by Warbrother Tantis of the Death's Legion Chapter, would have all the fast attack vehicles, and air support, and he was to run down stray groups of Departed, or any who retreated, and to sight out places for air strikes as well as listen for requested bombardments. The final group, led by Warcaptain Seglios, leader of the 31st Legion, was to protect the artillery, and move it into position to bombardment their enemies with their immensely long ranged guns and to answer calls for artillery.

When all this was ready, they began. Tantis shot to the left, moving around the city and looking to pick off enemy troops, sending groups of AAD drones to go and hunt down these groups, or draw some to his greater force. Seglios stayed put and waited for calls or sight of the enemy to begin his bombardment, and Krauros moved into the city, Colossus Walkers smashing through the ruins, the Juggernauts rolling over shattered homes, and the armored mass of the Kelauans glinted in the sun. The Kelauan war machine had been awakened, and rivers of blood would run over the planet, the blood of the Departed.

As this was happening, the fighter craft scattered and began to patrol the surrounding area, bombing and strafing important positions, convoys, and doing their best to hold off their attack waves so as to give their allies time to deploy. A large section of fighter-bombers and interceptors headed for the city where all their allies troops were and began to patrol the area, engaging any Departed forces which tried to attack. A message was sent through the battlenet to them. "All allied ground forces, this is Airlord H'sha. I have been ordered to assist you in protecting this city; the Departed have landed thousands of troops and have begun a ground invasion. To the north, the entire remaining ground forces of the Warfleets has been deployed and is on its way to help you. I will be engaging any Departed who try to attack the city, but if there is anything you want our help with, I am open to suggestions."

Meanwhile, when the ground forces were still deploying, J'thai opened a channel, on the battlenet, to the allied fleets. <"Allied fleets, this is Warlord J'htai of the Kelauan Dominion. I have seen a massive drop of Departed troops down to the planet. If you haven't seen this and taken action as well, I have deployed all my forces down to the planet, and they will begin combating the invasion. They are also working to the city several of you have sent troops towards. I am open to any suggestions on how to work to defeat this invasion.">

Battlecom was troubled, there was only a 49% chance of victory following the recent reversal in the tide. Two of its strongest vessels had been lost, Two more were engaged with a large enemy allied vessel, and the fleet was loosing cohesion. The loss of the command dreadnaught had halted Battlecom whilst it rerouted its protocols and organized counter strategy. It had.. methods, to increase chance of survival and ultimately victory - but it would have to be quick to do so.

The Imperiatus Fleet, although seemingly fragmented and attacked on two sides, was not yet defeated. Although its immeadiate tactical goals had not been fully completed, in the predicted course of the ensuing loss of a Population Center, fleet assets and morale - the war was still looking favourably on the invading forces, and they had only just started.

Groundcom, a subsiduary processing node of Battlecom communicated the apparent larger scale survival of the dreadnaught that had recently careened into the surface of the Alien world. It was, for all intents and purposes still intact in several areas, its shield generator was damaged but salvagable, as were a number of its weapons. It would not fly without signifigant work on its destroyed engines, however, it would serve as the perfect entrenched command centre on the surface.

Battlecom assigned Groundcom free will, transferred control of ground forces to the wounded behemoth laying on its surface, and turnt its attention back to the battle. Things had not gotten much better. The Vanguard Battlecom could not abide defeat at the hands of lesser beings however, and enacted its plan.

The Fleet, hearing Battlecom return to the minds of its myriad men and women rallied in response. Battlecom had one immeadiate objective, eliminate the enemy advantage by forcing the fleet into a cohesive formation, where superior Imperiatus shield technology would be able to work in unison, whilst this would cause them to be relatively unmanouverable with engines and some weapons systems switched to powering the shields - it was the only tactic at hand that would work.

The Vanguard slowly but surely closed its ranks, whilst those too slow were set upon by the encompassing enemy forces, both from either side - the majority of vessels finally acheived position. Powering down their engines and diverting power, space shimmered a ghostly colour as the fleets shields effectively expanded and merged. The fleet was now practically invulnerable for the immeadiate moment, and continued to unload its armnament into the enemy. The ESUS fleet had, but for a moment, thought they had tasted victory, Alas, it was merely the iron of their spilt blood. Battlecom knew the fleet would not be able to stay within its bubble for long, but it had received altercations to its strategy and was now only planning to destroy as many enemy vessels as possible as its forces continued the destruction of the population centre.

On the ground, several groups of shuttles had gotten waylaid and were eliminated by enemy anti-air weapons. The few that had landed in the misguided location, without command and control, ultimately lacking cohesion were outrightly destroyed by the few surviving segments of the enemies allied militaries. Although under attack, the dreadnaughts still continued periodic ground bombardment, deploying siege platforms to aid in the process.

However, The Sanctity, half buried into the surface of New Constantinople, was the new destination for incoming ground troops. With minimal jury rigging and the help of some reprogrammed nanites the powerplant and shield generator of the vessel which were largely intact, breathed life once more. A few moments later the surviving weapons systems on the exposed surface came to life, PD weapons came online and began tracking, and the shield generator, modified slightly, projected a protective bubble around the ship and its immeadiate surroundings. Imperiatus heavy armour was prepared and its marines prepared to defend their location.

Meanwhile, a select few vessels still dared the charged air of New Constantinople, a two-fold objective to be completed. Two shuttles sped across the surface, largely unmolested they were soon bearing down on the home of Franz Aram. The shuttles landed a short distance from his modest home and deployed a marine squadron.

The marines, finding only deserted streets, nonetheless stealthily advanced to the scientists home itself. Leaving no time for opposition they pounced, blowing through the door with concentrated charges they moved quickly to locate Aram.

The few shuttles still around found occasional resistance, some were indeed lost, others fought back against their attackers - their objective always at the forefront of their mind. Groundcom directed those surviving to locations it had scanned and located as power stations. Dropping their technician teams off at each location, the shuttles went dormant to mask their signatures - inside the structures, any resident Sornei who resisted were killed, the others taken prisoner and returned to the shuttles awaiting outside.

The technician teams went to work - it was a simple enough task to make a power station explode, it was a simple enough tactic working out how many needed to do so, it was not so simple getting teams to every single one, nonetheless the PBSL system needed to be shut down. The technicians worked quickly as they setup numerous conflicting situations in their respective power plants, intending to cause some form of chain reaction through the grid. Even if the reaction could not destroy or damage enough power stations to shut the entire system down - the damage to the grid would possibly be sufficient to deactivate the majority of the defenses on the surface.

Extricating, these shuttles too collected their cargo and returning crews, disappearing from sight as they climbed into the sky, below them, several explosions occured across the planet. Groundcom and indeed, Battlecom, took a moment to observe the outcome...

The rattle of the windows in Aram's condo crescendoes as the gunfire and chaos below intensified. Aram sighed, and poured himself another glass. He wished that, if they intended to destroy the planet, they would up and get it over with. Apparently for all the enemy's power they lacked someone like him, or the will to use the things like he made.

As if on cue, the door blew in a flash of smoke and haze. Aram held the cup to his lips rock-steady, utterly non-plussed by their crude method of breaking and entering. They at least could have knocked.

"Gentlemen," he said pleasantly. "Welcome to my humble home, although couldn't you have found a less... violent way to enter?" He set down his tea cup, and poured a couple more glasses. "Would you like some tea? I was expecting visitors at some point. No sense in not having any tea when thats the case."

The lead soldier knocked the cup out of hands, smashing it on the wall; the movement wasn't brutal as much as scornful, calculated to accomplish smashing the cup, and nothing more. Franz's face scrunched up, and he sighed.

"Can't lead a horse to water either apparently. If you're going to break into an old man's house and kill him, you might as well give him some courtesy before you do so. Oh well. I am old and have long awaited the end of my labors anyway," he said, his pose on the couch relaxing.

"No," said the elf curtly. "You will come with us. You have work to do."

His face fell. "More work... it's all I ever hear. Hmph. Some cockamamie project I imagine. What is it? Sun crushers, super lasers, hyperspace networks? It's all they care to ask about anymore," he sighed.

The soldiers said nothing, but lunged forward and grabbed him, pulling him off the couch, and throwing him onto their shoulders like a sack.

"Careful," he wheezed. "I'm immortal, not invulnerable. Can't very well build your doomsday device if you break my rib cage."

So they went out into the smoke-tinged sunset, and back into the shuttle. They pulled off, skirting the bombardment and fire by going to the far side of the planet, and leaving the atmosphere, quickly blinked out of real space.

Oboard the RMF Archer:

"Controller, reports show all the nanites in the field have gone inert to us."

"Shield is down, enemy is landing!"

"Our Colony Ships are bailing out... the last 2 are on their exit vectors, and will be clear in 1 minute."

The Flight controller, the man in charge of all the fighter wings in the system, calmly barked an order. "That, my friends, is our cue! Get every fighter out of here immediately! Engage the Catapult Grid."

With a bright glow, the flight deck of the RMF Archer turned green, and every vessel on the runway suddenly found itself levitated. The majority of the pilots were ready and anxious, but of course some were caught off guard when their dormant ships suddenly hurled away from the ship at 25,000 miles per hour relative to the orbited planet. Wave after wave, save a few dozen reserving themselves for space defense, plummeted towards the planet. 3 wings, that's 144 of the kumen-class fighters, glided onto an atmospheric entry approach that sent them towards the Sanctity.

From the ground, streaks of glowing red shields trailing plasma could be seen coloring the sky above the cities. When the fighters reached the troposphere, they opted out of decellerating to subsonic speeds as they charged their weapons to fire at the landers and shuttles all around the enearthed Sanctity. "Heat shields dropping, engaging main engines." At the speeds they were going, the airframe was rather limited to gliding. Sonic booms littered the air like hundreds of distant explosions. Engines supplied only maneuvering thrust, and the weapons turrets had to hug the hull to retain their structural integrity. That left forward rail cannons, which the hundreds of fighters liberally applied towards their targets. Slugs missing their targets wound up impacting the ground and small structures, and even one of the 2 kg rounds travelling at 10,000 m/s wound up blowing significant holes through through lighter targets and made craters in the ground. "We make a pass over the target zone on our decelleration glide, try getting as many targets in line as possible, then hit the breaker shields and slow yourselves down to subsonic speeds... then fire at will on anything not transmitting an IFF."

Wave after wave swarmed over the site. The air had always been Raysia's domain. No one would dare take the skies from them. After subsonic speed was obtained, the gunships engaged their atmospheric VILE drives, using the air around them as their own propulsion system. The remaining majority of the fighters kept their distance, hanging over nearby major cities awaiting their opportunity to act as support as another wave in the fight.

Upon reaching their ideal operations environment, their confidence grew immensely. The Raysians fought like dragons, gatling guns tearing through targets left and right, missiles flying coordinatedly at very specific targets, carrying small-scaled tactical warheads, that though they had a small blast radius, did plenty of structural damage.

"Attention Zerstorendarian, Skeelzanian, Ile Sorne, and any other allied ground units. Designate targets for our attack, we are here to support you! Prepare to witness our power en masse!"

The Raysians, who had up until now been in such small numbers they almost seemed non-contributing, were now a major air presence in the major cities and battle sites.

To cap things off, another cacaphonous hypersonic machwave could be heard as the RMF Ripliancum dived into the atmosphere, barreling straight for the Sanctity. Firing all forward batteries, the low-profile vessel's rail cannons fired like machine guns on a World War I dogfighter. Railfire smashed into the shields of the Sanctity, coupled with heavy beam cannons, while point-defense weapons independantly trained on responding missile fire. As the ship approached the grounded dreadnought, All turrets trained themselves downwards on the pass, firing nonstop at the shields, trying everything in their power to rock them offline. Kinetic force continued to be dealt in great quantities as the ship fired its weapons in reverse, flying full-speed away from the fight in a straight line, with a barrelling spiral added to it's momentum. Finally out of range, the ship dropped below the horizon, and set itself up for another attack run, leaving the gunships to continue their battering of the ship's shields.

They constantly swerved and jerked about trying to stay unpredictable to the point defense cannons, but many already found themselves shot down and damaged. The ones who had to leave the combat arena quickly engaged escape thrusters, rockets filled with hypergolic fuel, in order to project themselves to safety... but of course, some where not lucky enough to have that chance. In only a couple minutes, the force had already lost a few dozen fighters.

OOC: Man I wish I had a graphic for this haha
EDIT: Umm... I changed some wordings on strike locations to match up with Aren's location a little better ^_^

The Captains of the Sternsieg fleet, Trilkin, Ryder, and Fendal, all watched with a mixture of discomfort and surprise as the Sornei AI took control of their ships and greatly maximized they damage they were causing to the enemy fleet. A couple of enemy Dreadnoughts were destroyed in the chaos, and even better, reports were stating that shields were now effective against enemy weapons. It seems the AI had figured that out as well.

“All capitals, target the listing enemy supercapital in quadrant F14. The Skeelzanians look like they could use a few extra guns. Have the rest of the fleet continue to cover us, and have the Apex launch another five fighter wings.

“Yes sir, Captain Ryder reports ships launched., said Comms Officer Galmerz as the massive forms of the ZVSG Oblivion, Darkhand and Apex turned ominously to face the Imperiatus dreadnought buckling under the Skeelzanian fire. Massively powerful lances, swarms of torpedoes, and a large number of varied secondary weaponry slammed into the ship. Combined with the even heavier firepower of the Skeelzanians, the supercapital ship had very little hope.

“Radio transmission from Skeelzanian Captain Desaix.

“Go. The communications link crackled into life, and a harsh Skeelzanian voice requested that the Zerstorendarian fleet press the attack along with the Skeelzanians. Warhammer was on the offensive.

“Do so, support the Skeelzanian fleet. Keep formation. Ordered Fendal

“Sir, enemy nanite concentrations are decreasing and the Imperiatus fleet is manoeuvring to close their ranks.

“At least that should give our fighters a break. However, the Imperiatus are obviously concentrating their forces. The Sornei AI gave us a break, but we need to push our slight advantage now. Intelligence Officer Chand agreed.

“The enemy have lost their momentum, maximum violence and priority targeting should assist in further alleviating our situation. Fendal nodded, and went to speak before Comms Officer Galmerz interjected:

“Sir, Genlich Scarus reports that enemy ground troops have begun operations using a crashed dreadnought as a homebase.
“I’m sure he can handle it. Now helm, bring the fleet to a new heading level with the Skeelzanians, we’re not going to give them a chance to breathe…

++++

General Markus Scarus brushed dust off of his uniform and coughed up blood before straightening up. A large chunk of masonry had fallen on him while inside the bunker, but had only crushed a number of ribs. The nanite systems of this Thwarter Powersuit were very quickly repairing the damage, and so he ignored the pain. His staff were all relatively uninjured as well, their armour, enhanced physiology, and medical systems proving too much for collapsing stone to nullify.

“Are we in contact with the troops?

“Yes sir, I believe all divisions are intact.

“Order a split into Fatherunits under the command of individual Prime Lich’s. A Lich was the Zanekrieger equivalent of a Sergeant, and a Prime Lich was a flexible rank that could translate to something along the lines of Warrant Officer, but their actual duties were very flexible. A Ravager Digit was 50 men, and when operating individually was usually commanded by an experienced Lich, while a Ravager Fatherunit was a combination of ten such Digits, usually commanded by a Prime Lich.
Scarus continued: “I want a casualty and logistics report. Order the Fatherunits to deploy logical sub-quadrants, (basically, the original positions of each division would be split into sub-quadrants and the Fatherunits would deploy to a specific quadrant depending on their digit number, “and have vehicles provide division level support. I want our firepower focused for when the enemy arrives, but I also want to be able to move if something goes wrong.

“Sir, the Terran Imperium have landed with a considerable force.

“Good, we’ll link up with them if the enemy attack gains ground. Get me in contact with their leader, and I want a report of the Skeelzanians. First, get me in contact with Hrazany. The Comms Officer nodded, and attempted to hail the Skeelzanian General with no success. He did however, receive some informative military chatter.

“Genlich, it seems the Skeelzanian regular forces were thrown into slight disarray by the bombardment. Hrazany’s status is unknown. Scarus frowned.

“Are the Skeelzanians still organised?

“Somewhat, I believe.

“Try and find their ranking officer and ascertain their status. I want their artillery support.
General Markus Scarus turned to another of his adjutants, a tall Ravager standing at attention, and spoke:
“Get that secondary comlink and contact the Terran leader, Ravager. The man nodded and rushed to it.

"What?!" Ekard held onto the comm bead with one hand, blindfiring over the concrete slab with the other. An Imperiatus had crashed down not a hundred yards away, just as the General and his staff were moving to a forward command post. He risked a look around the corner and plugged an Elf, the 14mm round blowing off his arm quite satisfactorily. "Repeat again?"

"General Scarus is requesting our artillery." The communications team was set up several blocks behind them, on the roof of one of the more structurally sound buildings.

"Then why is he talking to me?"

"Our comms net is all shot to hell. We're having trouble reaching the brigade over the tacnet..."

"That doesn't answer my question! Oh, fuck this," he growled as an FS Huskarl opened up on the shuttle with an autocannon. Ekard waited for the explosive rounds to stop before continuing. "Tell the General that I'll see what I can do."

Crouching behind the wall of rubble, he moved up and tapped one of his "aides de camp" on the shoulder. Thrusting the comm bead into the soldiers hand, the General yelled, "Get this over to the artillery brigade! Tell them to give support to Zerts!"

The industrial park had already taken something of a hit when the 256th's artillery put down stakes. After the bombardment, it was a true disaster zone. Shattered Skeelzanian guns littered the lawns and footpaths, while the recoil of those that had survived rocked the ground.

Leaping over a pile of rubble, the young soldier ran across the lot and threw himself into the doorway of the command bunker. Major Trunk glanced up from the map, a hand ready over his service pistol. If the Elves were charging his position, he suspected he'd of heard something of it before now...

The steel blast door slid open, allowing the runner in. He threw up quick salute. "General Ekard sends compliments, says the Zerstorendars are requesting artillery support."

"You have any way of reaching them?" The private handed over the comm bead, Trunk tucked it into his collar. "General Scarus? Major Trunk, 833rd Artillery Brigade, 256th Division. I understand you're in need of some help."
"Emperor of Skeelzania, Grand Prince of Solomon, Champion of the Guards, Defender of the Race, Lord of Hosts, and Heir to the Great Bad Skeelz."

Official title of the ruler of Skeelzania

“Forward Prymals (proper name for Fatherunit) report small engagements with enemy ground forces, and further enemy shuttles are landing. Light casualties on both sides, reports indicate that the enemy forces are exceedingly resilient and equipped with powerful weaponry. Said the Comm. Officer.

“I don’t want my battlefront devolving into a number of petty skirmishes, get an artillery bombardment here-“Genlich Scarus pointed to an area on the glowing datamap in front of him, “-and here, and have those shuttles prioritised. Any word from the Skeelzanians?

“Actually sir, a Major Trunk of the Skeelzanian 256th is being patched through now.

“Good. Major Trunk, I would appreciate a forward support bombardment. We have artillery, but I imagine you have more. I want the enemy advance slowed while we figure this mess out properly. I’ll have a man send co-ordinates momentarily.
Scarus turned to his Comm Officer:

“Send this message to the ranking Skeelzanian officer: ‘This Genlich Scarus, I have a full division of four thousand that could probably be put to better use strengthening your forces. I suggest we integrate our lines. I can reposition in a matter of minutes as my Ravagers have yet to make any significant enemy engagement. Over.’ “ Scarus had decided directly joining with the Skeelzanians was tactically favourable, as his Ravagers would have a remarkable edge over any one they fought in urban combat.
Scarus then ordered that he be patched through to his army:

“All units fall back half a click, we could be moving any moment. Keep your eyes open, your AI’s active and your guns hot, I don’t want any stupid casualties while we figure this out. A chorus of affirmatives blinked on his handheld command-screen.
Scarus nodded in satisfaction and continued to visually monitor his reserve forces. His forward Prymals were out of sight, but he still enjoyed watching his soldiers work. None finer than Zerstorendarian Ravagers.

He couldn’t wait any more than they could to get to work.
